Another Day's Work

I am finally making progress on my garden spot! YAY!!! I am making raised beds four feet by four feet, and have three ready for planting. One has been partially planted already...I am just waiting for the weather to warm a little more so I can continue planting.
I planted some peas, lettuce, salad greens, swiss chard and radishes a few days ago. Now that I have two more beds done, I can plant more peas. I will also be planting my carrots, some flowers (marigolds in amongst the veggies are very beneficial...help keep the mosquitos away) and herbs.
I plan on constructing nine more raised beds...I am growing produce this year for a market garden as well as our own use. I can't wait for harvest time...especially the peas! If the yields are as good as I think they will be, I will be placing a sign at my gate and selling my produce directly from the garden. I will also be taking it to our local Farmers' Market - fresh produce is so much better than the stuff that spends days in a truck. I read somewhere not too long ago our produce travels approximately 2500 miles to get to our table. Now wouldn't 25 feet be even better?
This week is a busy one! We are helping my daughter with her 4H calf (he is being very stubborn), plus my son has an appointment in the city. That in itself takes up a whole day. Friday brings our local Mini Market, which I have a table at. I am selling my crafts, plus will try to convince my friend to let me take some of her bedding plants to sell...this time of year is perfect for that. I also have a handful of houseplants...the neatest one being a banana plant, which I grew from seed I purchased awhile back.
I will post again as I make progress with my garden...and build more benches so my customers have somewhere to sit. Plus, a pergola or two is in the plans. I will also be adding an arbor and some vertical gardens.
Goodnight to all! Have a great day tomorrow...I will be adding to my garden beds if the weather co-operates with me.
